As the main contractor, Duggan Lynch were the lead coordinator on scheduling and programming between design teams, archaeologist, sub-contractors, internal designers, Irish Water etc for this project.
The project was to develop the site into a new (470m2) 2 story building on the corner of Market Square and Firecastle Lane, overlooking St Bridget’s cathedral. The new building consisted of retail space, bakery, ancillary dining, 10-bedroom with ensuite accommodation, office space and a commercial kitchen
This involved firstly the demolition of the existing 2 storey buildings, agricultural shed and walls. All demolition was carried out in tandem with an archaeologist due to its position adjacent to an ancient archaeology site – St Bridget’s Cathedral.
As part of the St. Brigid 1500 commemoration honouring the life, contributions, and cultural impact of this iconic Irish saint from her birth in the 5th century in Faughart, near Dundalk, Co. Louth, to her founding a monastery in Co. Kildare the Firecastle Hotel had a mural painted on the building.
