Cadet School
Project Description
This project comprised of the Refurbishment of an existing Guard House & Mess Building with new extension to provide a new Cadet School Headquarters building at The Curragh Camp, County Kildare for the Department of Defence. The site incorporated existing vacated buildings, which formed the Eastern edge of the parade ground in the Pearse Barracks.
The project scope included the refurbishment and partial demolition of existing buildings and construction of a new build two storey extension which combined forms the new Cadet School HQ building. The HQ building included the following accommodation: offices, conference rooms, admin spaces, teaching spaces, administration, communal spaces etc. The works also included all associated site works.
The existing building comprised
- refurbishment works to the original structure
- demolition works and structural interventions and repairs, underpinninng and requirement for temporary works design
- internal finishes and completions
- fire safety works
- full Mechanical and Electrical installations
- full replacement of the roof coverings, rainwater goods
- repair/replacement of windows and repointing/replacement of brickwork
The new building is comprised of a modern two-storey extension of
- traditional construction methods
- curtain walling,
- feature Corten Cladding
- in-situ boardmark concrete elements.
The works also included all tie-in and interface works between the existing building and new build extension.
All works were undertaken within the Defence Forces Training Centre, a live military barracks. In order to ensure the continued operation of the Barracks a high level of management, safety and security control procedures were required on site.
